HOW DOES HEALTH TOURISM WORK?

If you decide to receive health tourism service in Turkey, you specify your needs and problems to our medical assistant by reaching to SEKOYA HEALTH TOURISM by email, online application form or phone. One member of SEKOYA HEALTH TOURISM team coordinates all services and acts as a go-between for you.

After the initial introduction, you send your medical records to our medical assistant online or by mail. Physicians working at SEKOYA HEALTH TOURISM will evaluate these medical records. In order to estimate the cost of your treatment plan appropriately, we need to have as much information as possible. This information may include, among others, your current diagnosis, the results of the biopsies (if you have), health insurance information, X-rays, MRI, CT, and ultrasound imaging, contact information of the patient, other important information. The estimated cost and treatment plan is shared with the patient during the communications before the anticipated travel. The final and binding treatment plan and the cost related to this are calculated within the context of local treatments. To avoid unrealistic expectations and to be transparent, we give all necessary information and documents to be signed during pre-travel communications.

If needed, we send these documents to hospitals and related departments to be investigated by physicians. We contact with the hospital and/or doctor. At this stage, we assist you as an independent company in choosing the hospital and doctor that will solve your problem transparently, safely, with high quality, and with the appropriate cost. To direct you correctly, we ask questions and try to determine all of the needs.

 

In 24 hours, we give an estimated quote about your treatment plan and offer different treatment options to you.

When you approve the process up to this stage, we help you to decide how your treatment and travel plan will proceed and clarify non-medical aspects (hotel accommodation, sightseeing, etc.) of your travel in detail.

If we don’t reach an agreement on the treatment plan and cost you are not obliged to pay a fee. In this case, according to ‘international personal data safety principles’, we don’t share your medical records with any institution and keep them confidential.

If you decide to receive diagnosis and treatment services in Turkey, we arrange your flight, welcoming at the airport and accommodation. We coordinate the details of your travel plan such as accommodation, transportation between hotel and airport, welcoming at the airport according to your medical condition and needs. We arrange the transportation between hotel and airport and physician appointments. In order to avoid anxiety and confusion, which happens frequently during medical travels, we support the patient and managerial processes by ensuring information sharing and communication between different services.

We come with you to the first hospital visit and appointment with the doctor, we explain the proposed treatment plans, and if an operation is needed, we arrange the appointment and accompany you before and after the operation. In-hospital services: We meet your expectations related to room temperature, humidity, noise and privacy to make you feel comfortable. We provide phone and other services, including Help Call, at all times during the day to help you to communicate with people in the hospital and with relatives friends and other people outside of the hospital. We make it possible to watch entertainment programs on TV and satellite channels in different languages and to obtain information and communication technologies including internet service and laptop. Additionally, other services such as newspapers, books, flowers, etc. can be considered in this context. We arrange patient visit times for the relatives and family members of international visitors and allow visits to be as long as possible if there is no medical restriction. We have a professional network to support you on the following matters: room comfort (noise, humidity, temperature, etc.), communication in patient’s language, a guide who can speak in patient’s language, entertainment programs (TV, satellite) in patient’s language, personal hospital support, financial counselor, other services, visits to bazaars and shopping centers, sightseeing tours, cultural programs (theatre, museum, movie theatre, ship tours etc.), thermal/spa-wellness programs, hobby programs (painting, writing, etc.) Services outside of the hospital A personal patient manager working at SEKOYA HEALTH TOURISM will consider all options with you. In general, the following options are considered: Shopping tours in places ranging from bazaars to luxury shops, Sightseeing tours in the city, Cultural and touristic tours such as theater, opera, movie theater, ship tours, etc., Spa-wellness program, Fitness program, Weight loss program and counseling, Hobby programs such as painting, writing, etc., Other activities. Non-medical processes before, during and after the treatment in the hospital are managed in accordance to international ethical, medical and economic necessities. We ensure that the health tourist receives high-quality medical care at best available price. Most of the patients receiving medical care abroad need assistance and support in non-medical issues before, during and after treatments. By ensuring a safe environment, we play a significant role to eliminate fear and hesitation in patients who has reservations during decision period. Food services provided to international patients: Eating habits may change because of cultural, religious and special physical needs, allergy, food intolerance or any other reason. This is notified during the interview with the patient. In order to meet special food requests of the patients, we order these services from the outside. Food services are organized according to patients needs by maintaining close cooperation between kitchen workers, dietitian and the doctor, if necessary. A survey and/phone call are done on this subject before the patient’s arrival.

We will be present at hospital discharge. Financial processes are explained in detail and for instance, a financial counselor is always available to explain the differences between and planned and actual bill amounts due to change in treatment plan. We effectively continue our support during the hospital discharge after treatment. ‘Fit to fly’ declaration is prepared after the treatment and handed to the patient at discharge. This declaration is requested by airline companies to certify that the patient’s condition is suitable for flight. The treating physician in the hospital prepares ‘fit to fly’ declaration. A report is prepared in a plain language at discharge. In this report, medical instructions and processes that should be followed after leaving the country are listed. In agreement with the patient, a copy of the report and radiological images are given to the patient. Written medical reports are sent to the hospital, which provides the treatments, in accordance with the rules related to patient privacy. The patient is informed on how to reach the services again in the future if needed. The scenarios after hospital discharge: It is possible to summarize the possible steps that the patient will take after discharge as follows: 1-The patient returns to his/her country after discharge with full health; 2-The patient gains full health but stays for a while for vacation; 3-The patient needs additional services in the context of rehabilitation treatments in Turkey; 4-The patient needs additional services in the context of rehabilitation treatments in his/her country; 5-The patient needs additional treatment and follow-up services that are not available in the hospital; 6-The patient needs additional treatment and follow-up services that are available in his/her country. This declaration is prepared by treating physician and includes information about the patient’s condition and things that are needed during transportation. The patient may be transported with an attending nurse or physician in an ambulance based on patient’s condition. The transportation of patients in critical condition is organized with assistance companies and need to be done with a mobile intensive care vehicle. Since this situation occurs very rarely, all details of this process are not given here. All travel and transfer arrangements are made in cooperation with third parties, if needed, depending on patient’s condition and necessary services. All of the supports are prepared in advance and activated at hospital discharge. By taking all precautions related to patient’s arrival and departure, services are given in a coordinated manner. If the patient has a walking disability and need assistance, our company organizes baggage service at the airport, train station or harbor etc. Our company organizes and coordinates post-treatment rehabilitation and follow-up procedures if needed. If a rehabilitation program is started after the treatment, our company organizes patient’s transfer to and from the rehabilitation center. All other necessary precautions are also taken.

A ‘treatment continuation program’ is prepared for international patient to use when they get back to their country. Surveys related to patient satisfaction, evaluation and recommendations are distributed to the international patients. Surveys are prepared in plain language. The results of these surveys are mostly helpful to correct the shortcomings of our company and to detect the points that need correction for international patients. The payments that should be made before discharge are determined by reviewing with the patient the previous costs and potential future costs. Additionally, when and how the patient will pay the final bill (that is agreed before coming to Turkey) is clarified.
